After the Party: A new body of work, in progress
I am currently work on a series titled "After the Party." "After the Party" explores the moments of introspection and reflection that often occur once a social gathering has ended, when the crowd has dispersed and the private self resurfaces.
My work draws on the mythology of Dionysus, the Greek god of wine and ecstasy, whose worshippers would drink, dance, and surrender themselves entirely to the intoxicating pull of the crowd, losing their individual sense of self in the process. His mythology is rich with that frenzy and abandon, yet it rarely stops to ask what comes after.
Through still life and figurative paintings depicting the aftermath of social gatherings, "After the Party" asks what remains of the self when the party is over and the ritual of belonging has finally come to an end.
