Presenting under the pseudonym, Goslo, I am an Australian painter working primarily in oils.

My work focuses on contemporary stories told primarily through the still life and figure, and with limited extrinsic context.

My pseudonymity is intrinsically connected to this point of view, as well as my broader ideas regarding identity and context. Specifically, I deliberately strip away biographical narrative and personal history from the work. This gives my paintings the opportunity to exist on their own terms, rather than filtered through the lens of who made them. In this sense, the absence of a fixed identity mirrors the limited extrinsic context within the paintings themselves, creating a consistent framework where meaning emerges from what is present in the work rather than what surrounds it.

Artistic Training

I have drawn and painted the world around me for as long as I can remember. I was fortunate to start my training early - at the age of 9 under the guidance of an outstanding artist and dedicated teacher, Colleen Wallis, in Port Vila, Vanuatu. Colleen taught me the fundamentals of painting from observation across landscape, portraiture and the still life.

My formal training took place across Brisbane, Sydney and New York, where I studied in settings focused on drawing and painting from observation. During this period, I completed significant residencies including via the Metropolitan Museum of Art Copyist Program, the New York Academy of Art Summer Residency, and the Institute of Classical Art and Architecture in New York. My studies and residencies were supported by several scholarships.

Awards

I am the 2025 winner of the AME Bale Art Prize for Works on Paper. I have previously also been recognised as a finalist for the AME Bale Art Prize and AME Bale Travelling Scholarship, the Lethbridge 20000, and as a semi-finalist for the Lester Prize.
